Alarm Travel Clocks

When I was a child, my father had a small leather travel alarm clock by the side of his bed. It would fold up into a small wallet-size shape for travelling, and we took it every time we travelled. It was mechanically-operated, which meant every night before he went to sleep, he would wind it and set it. Not once did that alarm clock fail to work.

When I left home to travel the world, I took with me a very similar, small, simple alarm clock. Of course, by this time they were battery-operated. No bells and whistles, just a simple clock with a basic alarm. Again, this clock never failed to wake me up.

Today, there are so many different types of travel alarm clocks that there are even entire websites devoted to them. “Alarm Clocks Online” (www.alarmclocksonline.com) is one such site is purely dedicated to alarm clocks. Some are travel alarm clocks, others are meant for home, for the kitchen, for children, for the hearing or visually impaired, and some simply vibrate. There are more choices of travel alarm clocks than you could ever imagine.

One of the most amazing alarm clocks I have found is the Gustav Becker travel alarm clock. It is beautifully sleek, requires only one AA battery, and automatically finds the time wherever you are by synchronizing to the world’s atomic clocks. No more worrying about what time zone you are in, or even fretting when it is time to change the times on all of your clocks twice a year. This clock does it on its own.

There are numerous places online to buy a travel alarm clock, and just as many different types of clocks to choose from. Just as when you are buying any other electronic device, there are several factors to consider when making your purchase.

As travel alarm clocks are not always the most sturdy of devices, make sure your alarm clock comes with a sufficient warranty or return policy. This doesn’t mean you can travel through India for years with a clock and return it when you get home, but it does mean that if you take it out of the box and it doesn’t work, then you can get it replaced easily.

Where you will be using your alarm clock is important. If you are travelling, you might want an alarm clock with adjustable volume. No one likes to wake up to someone else’s alarm. You may also want to consider the face of the alarm clock. If you are only using it at home, maybe the bright LCD display works for you. But again, if you are using it around others, they might not want to sleep to the light of your clock.

Many travel alarm clocks now have radios built in. Some clocks have alarms that sound like birds or running water. Other travel alarm clocks even allow you to wake up to the sound of a person’s voice. Some alarm clocks simply vibrate to awaken you. Whatever type you choose, make sure it is right for you, your sleeping partner, and the way you sleep and want to wake up.

When buying your travel alarm clock, remember one thing. The more complicated it is, the more likely you will program it incorrectly. If getting up on time is your only consideration, go for the most basic of all the models!

It’s official, analog clocks are better than digital and when a clock face is this well done, you know you have something special.

Elegant Travel Clocks

Most travel-size clocks are digital eyesores; the Asprey ‘Clic Clac’ travel alarm is for the person who expexts the finer thing in life.

New Chronulator Clock Kit

Apropos of the prior Gitmo/travel comments, I thought everybody would enjoy a Chronulator made by the guy who originally gave me the idea.

Difficulty Waking Up – Try A Bed Shaking Vibrating Alarm Clock – I kid You Not!

Many alarm clocks are simply not loud enough (or not unpleasant enough). Fortunately there is a special type of alarm clocks which combine a loud siren-like alarm and a vibrating bed.

Angry Chicken Alarm Clocks

I have never understood why they would make anything but a travel alarm clock that relies solely on batteries. What are you supposed to do on the morning you actually need the alarm.
